Cal Flame Outdoor Fireplaces: Patio vs. Escape vs. Platinum (2026 Series Guide)
The July Deadline Nobody Talks About
Cal Flame fireplaces are built to order in Pomona, CA. Build times run roughly 4–8 weeks depending on model, 6–10 weeks total to your door. Order in July and you're lighting it in September. Order in September and you're staring at a crate in November.
Outdoor Fireplace Buying Guide
Cal Flame builds nine outdoor gas fireplaces across three series — Patio, Escape, and Platinum — and if you've spent any time comparing them, you know the problem: the names tell you nothing. Patio, Escape, Platinum. Which one is the good one? Here's the honest answer: they're all the same fire. What you're actually choosing between is size, styling, and finish tier. This guide breaks down all nine models with real prices so you can stop guessing.
How The Three Series Actually Ladder
Every series runs the same basic play: a compact model around 46 inches, a mid-size around 48 inches, and a wide-body statement piece. The burner story is consistent — the models that list output in our catalog all run a 90K BTU burner. So the series ladder is not about more fire. It's about the shell around the fire.
- Patio Series — the entry point into a real masonry-look gas fireplace. Cabo (compact linear), Monterey (extended bottom mantel), Sahara (72-inch widebody with wrap-around mantel). This is the series most buyers should start with.
- Escape Series — the contemporary set. Indio and Cancun lean modern and clean-lined; Tahiti brings the 72-inch wrap-around-mantel format in Escape styling. If your patio design skews current rather than traditional, you're shopping here.
- Platinum Series — the top of the line. Laredo (compact-depth linear), Durango (extended mantel), Key West (the flagship linear with wrap-around mantel). You're paying for the premium finish tier, and the price gap tells you exactly where each model sits.

How To Actually Pick — Three Questions
1. How much wall do you have? This decision is 80% architecture. A 46–48-inch model (Cabo, Indio, Monterey, Cancun, Laredo, Durango) anchors a normal patio without eating it. The 72-inch widebodies (Sahara, Tahiti) and the Key West flagship are for patios where the fireplace IS the wall — think 400+ square feet of outdoor room with seating built around the fire. Buying a widebody for a small patio is the most common mistake in this category, and it's not reversible.
2. Traditional or contemporary? The Patio Series mantel formats read classic — the kind of fireplace that suits stucco, brick, and traditional stone patios. The Escape Series is deliberately contemporary: cleaner lines, modern proportions. If your backyard has a pool with square corners and large-format pavers, Escape will look right and Patio will look borrowed from a different house. Match the fireplace to the architecture you have, not the one on Pinterest.
3. Does the Platinum premium matter to you? The honest math: Laredo costs $873 more than Cabo in the same 46-inch compact-linear format. Durango is $1,146 over Monterey at 48 inches. That premium buys you Cal Flame's top finish tier. If this fireplace is the centerpiece of a $50K+ backyard build, the Platinum trim level belongs in the conversation. If it's warming a modest patio, the Patio Series delivers the same 90K BTU fire and nobody at your party will ask which trim package you bought.
One more decision worth naming: fireplace vs. fire pit table. If your gatherings are circular — people facing each other, drinks on a surface — a fire pit table is the better tool, and Cal Flame's run from the Mesa at $3,600 to the 72-inch Mojave at $4,786. A fireplace is directional: it anchors one end of an outdoor room and throws its presence at the seating in front of it. Plenty of serious builds end up with both, but if the budget picks one, pick the one that matches how you actually host. Browse both formats in our Fireplaces & Fire Pits collection.
