California Proposition 65 Warning

California Proposition 65 Warning

⚠️ WARNING: Some products sold on this site can expose you to chemicals including lead, phthalates, and combustion byproducts, which are known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. For more information, go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.

What is Proposition 65?

California's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (better known as Proposition 65) requires businesses to warn California consumers about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. The list includes over 900 chemicals — many of which are present in common household items, gas appliances, outdoor cooking equipment, fire features, and building materials.

Product Categories That May Trigger a Warning

  • Gas grills, BBQ islands, and outdoor kitchens (combustion byproducts)
  • Fire pits, fire tables, and fireplaces (combustion byproducts)
  • Certain finishes, paints, and coatings (lead, VOCs)
  • Vinyl and plastic components (phthalates)
  • Electrical components (lead in solder)
  • Some outdoor furniture and fabric treatments

What a Warning Means — and Doesn't

A Prop 65 warning does not mean the product is unsafe or illegal to sell. It is a required consumer disclosure for California residents. Products meeting Prop 65 standards may still emit trace amounts of listed substances during normal use. Regulatory thresholds under Prop 65 are set very low — significantly below levels considered harmful under federal safety standards.
