Outdoor Kitchen Cost Breakdown — $5K vs $10K vs $20K: What You Actually Get in 2026
Cost Guide 2026
$5K vs $10K vs $20K: what an outdoor kitchen actually gets you.
Real products at each tier, with verified MAP pricing from an authorized Cal Flame, Summerset, and American Made Grills dealer. Written for the person signing the check.
The honest answer to "how much is an outdoor kitchen?" depends on what you count as a kitchen.
A grill on wheels is $2,000. A built-in island with a professional-grade grill, refrigeration, and real stone top is $10,000 and up. A flagship L-shaped install with pizza oven and ice maker is north of $20,000. Each tier is a different product, not a bigger version of the one below.
Install costs — pad, gas, electrical — are called out separately because they vary by region and site, not by product.
Tier 1 Entry $4,500 to $6,000
The compact built-in kitchen.
60 to 70 inches wide. 3-burner grill. Door + drawer storage. Granite or tile top.
| Representative product | Cal Flame Maui Q 60" island |
| Grill | 3-burner stainless, 40,000+ BTU |
| Build | Powder-coat steel, granite or tile top |
| Storage | Access door + double drawer |
| Lead time | 3-5 weeks built to order |
| Warranty | 10-yr Cal Flame structure + burners |
| Install (separate) | $800-$2,500 |
Good for: couples, small patios, buyers who want a real built-in grill without the full-kitchen footprint.
What you give up vs $10K: no refrigeration, lower BTU grill, smaller cooking surface, no bar overhang.
Tier 2 Premium $9,000 to $13,000
The host's kitchen.
80 to 95 inches wide. Premium 4-5 burner grill with infrared rotisserie. Outdoor fridge included. Bar overhang.
| Representative product | Cal Flame Carmel Q 111" L-shape · $9,364 |
| Grill | 4-5 burner premium, infrared back burner |
| Build | Full stainless or stucco, granite top, LED lighting |
| Refrigeration | 15" or 24" outdoor-rated fridge included |
| Lead time | 4-6 weeks built to order |
| Warranty | 10-yr structure, 3-yr fridge sealed system |
| Install (separate) | $1,500-$4,000 |
Good for: families who entertain, buyers who want "one build and done."
What you give up vs $20K: no pizza oven, no ice maker, no vent hood, single-burner setup.
Tier 3 Flagship $18,000 to $25,000
The 20-year backyard anchor.
L-shape or three-piece. Flagship-tier grill. Pizza oven. Ice maker. Side + power burner. Vent hood. Full 304 stainless.
| Representative product | AMG Freestanding Encore 54" Hybrid · $20,331 |
| Grill | Hybrid gas + charcoal, 304 stainless, red-brass burners |
| Build | 304 stainless, Bohemia NY manufactured |
| Companion units | Side burner · pizza oven · ice maker · vent hood |
| Lead time | 6-10 weeks built to order |
| Warranty | AMD Direct Gold Standard Lifetime |
| Install (separate) | $2,500-$6,000 |
Good for: forever backyards, buyers who entertain 20+ at once, and anyone who's done the per-year math on a lifetime warranty.
The one upgrade everyone regrets skipping
Outdoor refrigeration.
If a tight budget forces one cut at the entry tier, buyers cut the fridge. Then they spend five summers walking to the indoor kitchen for drinks.
If you can only add one thing to a Tier 1 build, add the 15-inch Summerset Compact Refrigerator ($1,000). It fits a standard island fridge slot and changes how the kitchen is used.
Side by side
Three tiers at a glance.
| Feature | $5K Entry | $10K Premium | $20K Flagship |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grill burners | 3 | 4-5 | 5+ hybrid |
| Infrared back burner | — | ✓ | ✓ |
| Outdoor refrigeration | add $1,000 | ✓ | ✓ + ice maker |
| Side burner | — | optional | ✓ |
| Pizza oven | — | — | ✓ |
| Bar overhang | — | 2-3 stools | 4+ stools |
| Vent hood | — | — | ✓ |
| Burner warranty | 10 yr | 10 yr | Lifetime |
| Lead time | 3-5 wk | 4-6 wk | 6-10 wk |
A practical note before you order: the per-year cost on a Tier 3 flagship is often lower than a Tier 1 budget build, because the warranty runs longer and the materials don't need replacing. A $20K AMG with lifetime stainless at 20 years is $1,000/year. A $5K island replaced every 7 years is $714/year — plus the install cost paid three times.
Not everyone needs to spend $20K. But don't confuse "cheaper" with "cheaper over time."
